Yesterday we took a road trip. The ferry wasn’t running because the is a gas ration in Sedhiou, so Mr. Kim decided he would like too drive around the river by way of Kolda to see if he could locate a particular village he had been told about. Unfortunately we were not able to locate the village but the team was able to get first hand experience of what it was like in the bush…potty breaks and all, teehee!
We also saw several Kankourangs. They are men dressed in red straw-like suits. They are a part of the circumcision ceremony. They originated out of the Mandinka people group but now are used in several groups, including the Mandyak.
After we returned to the river house, Gwen and I decided to visit Immanuel Mendy in Bambacounda. It was the highlight of our day! Immanuel went on to explain that he and Sebastion had Bible study at the school on Thursday and the classroom was full. There almost wasn’t room for everyone. We were able to provide encouragement for him and to remind him that the class can always move out under the tree in order to have more room. Karen, I was also able to meet your namesake, his mother. His father also asked specifically about you. I assured them that you are hoping to return soon. Pastor N’gorhas agreed to meet weekly w/Mr. Mendy for discipleship. Yeah God!
There is a Korean missionary couple who lives down the street from the river house. It has been a great blessing for both the couple and the Korean team. Yesterday was a Korean holiday so there was an instant bond!
Today we plan to go to a village down from Bambacounda that is highly populated w/Mandyak. Mr. Mendy informed me of them yesterday. Please pray for continued discernment and direction that HIS wants us to take.
For His Kingdom,
Cindy
