The clinic was such a successful outreach this year. Amazing doors have opened and it all confirms where we have sensed God's leading. So many things have happened its hard to know where to start. I attempted to just post pictures because they say so much more. As always, we are in "WA-WA" land and things just don't happen as you intend for them to. The pictures wouldn't post so I will do my best to put it into words.
It is such a delight to see the transformation God has made in Emmanuel's life!!! He is doing a super job leading the new ch.rch plant. Approximately 8-10 of our new believers helped do the ticketing and directed traffic through the clinic. I don't think it could have gone any smoother. The community was very patient...arriving between midnight and 3:00 am in hopes to be seen the following day. As Americans our mind can't wrap around the fact that you may go an entire life time without seeing a physician. When the caravan of three vehicles arrived each morning we were always greated with such warm hospitality and gratitude.
Until Larry and Kelly arrived, Sebastian and Antionne poured the Gospel out to anyone who would lend a listening ear. I wish I could bottle up some of their bold passion and bring it home. They took up right where we left off last year with the illustration on the chalk board. It's also a plus to have a captive audience waiting to be seen by the physician. ; ) Jim was marvelous with the crowd control. After Larry and Kelly's arrival he began making glasses while "Dr.Kelley" did the visual screenings. Pastor N'gor also got in on the action and learned very quickly how to make the glasses. The eye kit has been a HUGE blessing and it's wonderful that Pastor will be able to continue to make them after we return home.
Our dental team was blessed this year with a new addition...Dr. Ema. He is a Senegalese dentist and also a pastor. He was a tremendous help to Dr. Mike, Gwen, and Rose. In fact, Dr. Ema even let Rose perform her first extraction in Africa! The dental team never lacks for patients and are usually the hotest show in town. This year with Dr Brad and Dr Brian they did have a little competition. I don't think job security is ever an issue.
Dr. Adcock was quite the blessing for many of the women. In this culture being able to bear children is of GREAT significance. Dr Ty was able to provide several with consultation regarding fertility issues. This was always followed up by our team of ladies praying and asking for HIS divine intervention.
Dr. Brian, Dr. Brad, and Dr. Soh made quite the medical team. Dr. Brian was able to teach Dr. Soh had to do pain injections while Dr. Soh was able to share his wealth of tropical disease knowledge with Dr. Brad and Dr. Brian. Once the community discovered that Dr Brad could remove "lumps and bumps" it wasn't long until we ran out of suture. It was also amazing to see the interventions that Dr. Brad had for duct tape...any where from wart removal to the new African "support" bra. ; ) Dr. Brian is now known as the "miracle worker". It's amazing what a pain injection can do. After the chief received an injection in the knee he is ready to run a marathon!
Thursday was a big day. Dr. Brad and Dr. Brian were able to do skin grafts at the local hospital on an 8 yr old girl who had severe disfigurement of her right hand and arm from 3rd degree burns. It's no coincidence that she is from Buno...the village where Famalang and Tening live. I have full confidence that God has a great plan here...one for spiritual healing as well as physical healing.
I am also thrilled to tell you that Dianke is doing great. She still has full range of motion in her shoulder joint and is able to turn her head side to side and close her mouth. She and her brother are now attending Pastor N'gor's church regularly. We hope to visit her village possibly tomorrow afternoon. We are also going to Buno to visit Famalang and Tening. Please pray that we are able to share the Gospel one more time.
We have seen so many things...lumbar fracture due to a fall from a tree, fetal demise and miscarriages, deaths from lack of simplistic medical care. It has been a vivid reality of the abscence of peace when there is no hope. Praise God, HE is our eternal hope!!!! That is why we come.
Today we hadthe honor of going to Antionne's village and teaching at his school. Karen eagerly displayed her flannel graph teaching the creation story. This was followed by singing, counting, and deworming! ; ) De Ann and I taught the food pyramid to the adults while Karen and Ronda interacted with the children. The ladies of the village then served us a tasty meal of chicken and rice. I am always moved by their generous hospitality.
Antionne topped the day off by giving us a tour of his home and the area he sets up as a "medical clinic". He uses this as an open door for the Gospel message. He is such a spiritual warrior...marching forward in the midst of battle.
Please continue to pray for the health of our ladies. They are all such troopers!! The next few days are very full, trying to make the most of every opportunity to tell HIS Gospel message. We have truly sensed the prayer coverage of the Saints!!
To our families, we send our love and affection.
For His Glory,
Cindy
"Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious! Say to God, 'How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you they sing praise to your name.' Selah. Come and see what God has done, how awesome His works in man's behalf!" Psalms 66:1-5
