Well today started after a short night. You know some times it does not take very long to spend the night! We left Sedhiou at about 6 a.m. after packing, closing up the house, taking the dirty cloths to Pastor Ngom’s so that Elizabeth could wash them and have them ready for the next team, and then having a prayer time before beginning our travel.
The Lord blessed us because they opened the road at the time we arrived in Madina Mataafaa. We preceded through the check points with ease. Once again we drove right on to the ferry, so fast that Joseph was unable to purchase a sandwich. However, he was able to purchase a “meat” sandwich on the north side of the river. Larry and I were able to get bread to eat and share with the others. We stopped at the hotel in Kolack for a pit stop and then again in Fatick where Claude left us to visit a friend and then travel back to Dara. We stopped in Salle at Moussa’s house for lunch. He took us by the hotels and tourists area to show Bonnie his area. Traveling on the Dakar was the normal clogged traffic which makes a short trip a long one. As we were going to drop Jefferson off, we passed by a place where he mentioned served good ice cream. Some how we felt led by a huge desire to experience such a thing. Larry missed seeing that they had an Obama flavor. We got to Gran Yoff only to find, after we unloaded the van, that we were staying in Ouakam. So we loaded back up, passed the Youth with a Mission Clinic to leave some medications that had been given to us to bring.
Once we arrived at Ouakam we unloaded and found our rooms. A retired missionary who is now working with the Bible League was here and introduced himself to the team. When I came in, I introduced myself to him. He said that we had met in Kenya back in ’85. He served in West Africa. He will be traveling with us on the Delta flight to JFK Sunday night.
Cindy seems to be getting stronger after a rough start this a.m. So we believe she will rebound more tomorrow and will be ready to get on the plane to experience the snow in D.C. Pray for her and Larry as they fly into the nations capital during their big snow event. However, I am not sure that eating ice cream outside in about 90 degree weather was the right preparation.
