He will rescue us because you are helping by praying for us. As a result, many will give thanks to God because so many people's prayers for our safety have been answered. 2 Corinthians 1:11
Thank you all for your abundant prayers over the course of today. The team arrived safely in Dakar this evening after a wonderfully uneventful travel day! We arose early this morning to depart Sedhiou for the trip back through the Gambia to Dakar. The vans and truck travelled nicely, and were well preserved minus the semi-truckload of dust caked on them!
We had the opportunity to be blessed by Moussa (our main driver) and his family today on the way through his hometown. They had prepared a feast for the team, complete with smoked chicken, rice, vegetables and cold soda pop! We topped it off with yummy bananas for dessert! It was a real treat to spend some time with his family. He is indeed a blessing to our family, and I ask that you be in prayer for him. He is not yet a believer, and nothing could bring more joy to those that know him than his conversion. I know that God has a time and place for him. Just continue to pray for the softening of his heart and that the time may come soon!
Following our gracious meal, the team parted ways: the majority on to the guesthouse in Dakar, and a few of us to visit the missionary hospital in Thies (pronounced chess). Dr. Soh had recommended that we visit Dr. Ted there, a Korean-American missionary surgeon, to consult regarding Diauke's surgery. We had a wonderful visit and tour of his hospital, and can now continue to pray regarding his participation in God's plan with Diauke's surgery.
We had some pizza tonight at Grand Yoff (the Baptist guesthouse), and a wonderful time seeing Sam and Bonnie. We are headed to bed after a long day of travel. Tomorrow we will go see the kids at ICRD (International Center of Refuge and Development) and do health assessments for them. It is always a highlight of the trip to see their smiling faces! Then, we will likely head to the artisan village before its time to pack up and head out for the airport. I will try to post about tomorrow's happenings before we leave!
Thank you so much for your prayers. They have certainly been felt and answered. The team is feeling better today, for which we are immensely grateful! Please continue to pray for the seeds that were planted this week; for those in a new personal relationship with Jesus Christ; for the team as we care for the children tomorrow, for ongoing safety, health, and a restorative rest. Please pray for Bonnie, Sam, Cindy, and Larry who will continue to make provisions for the trip back down to Sedhiou on Thursday. We love you all! Goodnight!
The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16
