Another Mission Field!!!

Some folks may be wondering why the posts stopped so abruptly on Friday of the Senegal trip, and I apologize for that. Sam, David and Cindy all made it back safely (albeit circuitously in the men's case) but may have wished they had stayed in Africa. As the news has reported, savage ice storms moved through the area on the evening of Friday, January 12, knocking out power to (effectively) the whole community of Neosho and outlying areas. There are many as of this writing who remain without power.

Beauty - Pine needles encapsulated in ice

The Beast - mature oak tree with broken limbs. Falling limbs and the weight of ice on power lines led to area-wide power outages. Within two days of the storm temperatures dropped into the single digits, making life near impossible for many.

Calvary has been transformed into an emergency shelter housing people, feeding people, caring for those who have no place else to go. It is now the center for Southern Baptist relief efforts for the city, sending out five chainsaw crews yesterday, possibly more in days ahead. There are folks here from as far as Mississippi assisting in getting the community back in order.

Scott Tucker and Barb Parker assist one of Warren and Barb's neighbors with limb removal. A large limb fell through the rear window of her vehicle.

We thank those members of Calvary who are faithfully serving Christ by serving the people of our community. Please pray for us all as there is much work to be done and many souls to be won.

Casey, Gary, Travis and Russel 'helping' in the kitchen (seems the real action is happening in the background!)
